The History of Lake Hills Garden Club

Lake Hills Garden Club began October 21, 1959. Quoting from the minutes of that first meeting, ten ladies met “at the gracious invitation of Ruth Raikes to discuss forming a garden club in the vicinity” of the intersection of Roland and Lake Avenues. “After much thought” the name Lake Hills Garden Club was chosen, and Mrs. Raikes said she would submit the name to the Federation for approval. A time was chosen for future meetings and dues were set at $5 per year. Mrs. Raikes read out the duties of the officers and recommended a few of the committees that would need to be organized. The last order of business was an announcement that a Board meeting would be held to prepare a Constitution to be presented to the membership for approval at the November 1959 meeting.
